Back to Basics: What is a FASTPASS and how does it work?

On my first trip to Walt Disney World in 1993, I can remember when we had to wait almost 2 hours for a ride. Unfortunately, that is all that my dad remembers! He will tell everyone that his trip to Disney consisted of him waiting in line, it is hard for him to comprehend that as long as you plan accordingly and use Disney's FASTPASS system to you advantage, you don't really have to wait like that anymore.

The best part about Disney's FASTPASS it that it is FREE!! The FASTPASS system is only available for select attractions. Luckily, there are the most popular attractions and the ones with the longest lines.

The first thing you will need to do is go to the attraction with the FASTPASS and look for the FASTPASS distribution sign. Check for the "return time" that is posted. This is the time that you can return with the FASTPASS ticket and enjoy a shortened wait time than the standby time.

For a ride you will get an one hour time frame for example (1:10-2:10) that you will need to return between but for a show you will have a specific show time to return for.

You just put in your admission ticket in order to spit out the FASTPASS. You can use your room key if you are staying an Walt Disney World Resort. The FASTPASS ticket will pop out and you are free to roam the rest of the park!

After your FASTPASS time approaches, you just simply go to the FASTPASS line and hand your ticket to the Cast Member and enjoy the shorter wait time. IMPORTANT NOTE: You don't really have to make it within that time period. As long as you are AFTER the initial time period you can use the FASTPASS!

Please keep in mind:

FASTPASS tickets are only valid on the day that they are issued.
Everyone in your party must have their own FASTPASS ticket.
You can't get more than one FASTPASS at a specific time. There's a limit to the number of FASTPASS tickets you may have at one time. On your ticket will be printed the time at which you can get your next one. Disney's FASTPASS Service machines won't issue another ticket until the time stated on your current one.
