Disney Food Facts: Tonga Toast

I've been toying around with some new ideas. This is not specifically a food blog- it's a Disney & travel advice blog.

However, as I have mentioned before, a big part of my family's trips to Disney is the food. Yes, we love the rides, characters, theming, hotels.... but the food is also one of the reasons we love going there.

I'm going to pen a weekly post, titled "Disney Food Facts," where I will feature a food found in Disney World or Disneyland.

Is it your favorite? Something you have never tried? I know when I check out these pictures it makes me want to go back. So click the link, and see the first food item featured in "Disney Food Facts."

This is also one my favorite recipes from Disney to make at home- I've also posted the recipe!

This food is one of my all time favorites-it's Tonga Toast. You can find it at Kona Cafe, located in Disney's Polynesian Resort (located on the monorail, and right outside of Magic Kingdom).

It's sour dough bread, stuffed with a banana, and it is dipped into a batter. After that, it is deep fried and rolled in cinnamon and sugar. At the Polynesian Resort, it's served with a strawberry compote (a sauce that you put on or dip the Tonga Toast in).

Tonga Toast has a cult following- everyone loves it, and for good reason- it's delicious!

The cinnamon and sugar of the crisp bread, the mix of strawberry and bananas.. I love it a bunch! (Bananas...Bunch....that's right!)

Recently it was featured on Taste of Disney-here's the video where a Disney chef shows you easily how to whip one up in your own kitchen!

Also, here's a link to a recipe I found online. It looks easy- I've never tried to make the strawberry compote, but I have made the Tonga Toast. It's not exactly up to Disney's standards-hey, I've made it 3 times, and I'm sure they have made it 3,000 times) but it's still delicious.

Stay tuned for next week's Disney Food Facts-maybe you can try one of these foods on your next Disney Trip, or share your own experience with these foods!

If you have any personal experiences you'd like to share, or a food you'd like me to highlight, please send me an

If these pictures don't make you want to Disney World, you may need to visit an eye doctor!
